Lemuel G. Pruitt (1937 - 2007) (Alison's Uncle)

Lemuel G. Pruitt, 70, of Memphis died Sept. 14, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, where he was taken after suddently becoming ill in his home earlier in the morning. Services were conducted Sept. 16 at Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Highway 64 in Oakland with the Rev. David Reeves, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. Special remarks were given by his son Bill Pruitt. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Williston. Mr. Pruitt was a native of the Williston community. He was born June 2, 1937 to Eugene Bailey Pruitt and Effie Hazel Reeves Pruitt, early residents of the Williston community. He was educated in the Fayette County School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School in Somerville, Class of 1955. He was married Aug. 11, 1956 to the former Elizabeth Kelley of Fayette County, who survives. Mr. Pruitt had been a resident of Memphis for 49 years and was employed in sales for the beverage industry for much of his life, retiring from Crown Distributing Co. six years ago. He was of the Christian faith and will be remembered for his love of all sports, including NASCAR activities. He enjoyed his family, customers, friends and his Fayette County heritage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Ricky, Ronald, Gary and Bill Pruitt, all of Memphis; his sister Vivie Jenkins of Williston; and one granddaughter, Ashley Paige Pruitt. Casket bearers included Charles Kelley Jr., Jeffery Kelley, Vincent Kelley, Danny Lazenby, Greg Sheffield and Jack Walker. The family requests that any memorials be directed to America's Keswick Colony of Mercy, 601 Route 530, Whiting, N.J. 08759.
